TekTrain project: Target

Children currently receiving primary and secondary education come into contact with technology from a very early age, through the use of PCs, “smart” mobile, and electronic devices in general. This results in their involuntary technical training. In addition, the explosion of technologies, such as the Internet of Things (IoT) and Robotics, makes learning through face-to-face experience particularly important.
The purpose of TekTrain is the educational development and dissemination of technology. Learning programming through interaction with real devices (experiential learning) is more efficient, as the learner sees the result of the software he creates to have a direct impact on the real world. Thus, the process becomes easy to remember and enjoy.
The goals of TekTrain are:
– The development of a software framework, which provides the necessary tools and devices focusing on quick and easy training in cutting-edge technologies (such as IoT and Robotics).
– The integration of this software framework in the educational process and its communication with the students.
Implementation of the TekTrain project
The first axis concerns the creation of a “smart” device that includes specific sensors (camera, microphones, distance sensors, etc.), which can be adjusted at will.
The second axis concerns the provision of cloud services, which implement specialized algorithms in the fields of machine vision, sound processing, etc.
The third axis focuses on the implementation of a network platform, through which the user can create applications. The web platform supports the storage and sharing of implemented applications in the application Stores, thus facilitating their download and execution on any “smart” device.
The quality evaluation of the system will be done by groups of students / three. The aim is education in state-of-the-art technologies, but also to remove the social exclusion of children / young people living in areas with insufficient access to technology education and insufficient socio-economic opportunity to participate in such activities.
The final system will result from successive phases of co-creation of operational requirements by project partners, training providers, and end-users, in order to produce a product tailored to the needs of users (students).
The current phase of TekTrain: Spring School Organization (March 2021)

The first Spring School with the educational robotics platform TekTrain was held in the period 8-10 / 3/2021, with the participation of the teachers and the students of the 6th grade of the 2nd Primary School of N. Moudania. The students were divided into 3 working classes and attended 1 activity per day, lasting 2 hours (6 hours in total for all working classes).

The main goal of the educational activity was to train students in the field of robotics and intelligent algorithms (AI), but also to develop their computational thinking with activities of varying difficulty.
The program initially included a presentation of the TekTrain program and a brief introduction to robotics. Then, the main educational activities started:
Day 1: Development of robotic applications with simple movements of the robotic device, using various speeds and different movement times.
Day 2: Development of geometric shape painting applications with simple repetition of robot motion programming commands.
Day 3: Development of human tracking applications using intelligent algorithms (AI) and moving the robotic device to themselves.
Finally, the students evaluated the program and the process, through a Questionnaire on the computer.
Part of the process was implemented through the simultaneous use of an electronic platform of modern transmission, due to the need to comply with all the prescribed health and safety measures to prevent the transmission of the COVID-19 virus. The strict observance of the foreseen legal measures and restrictions for the protection of the personal data of the children and teachers participating in the process is confirmed.
It is pointed out that, if the epidemiological data for COVID-19 allow it, a summer school will be planned, with the live presence of all the necessary stakeholders.

Axis 2: Cloud network services. The design of cloud network services was implemented, which implement specialized algorithms in the fields of machine vision, sound processing, etc.
Axis 3: Network platform for creating applications. The network platform has been implemented, through which the user (student) can create applications. The web platform supports the storage and sharing of implemented applications in the application Stores, thus facilitating their download and execution on any “smart” device.

Summer School Organization for June 2021
The quality evaluation of the system is done by groups of students.

 

The first Spring School with the educational robotics platform TekTrain was held, with great success, in March 2021. Teachers and students of the 6th grade of the 2nd Primary School of N. Moudania participated.
The main goal of the educational activity is the education of students in the field of robotics and intelligent algorithms (AI), but also the development of their computational thinking with activities of scaling difficulty.
The students are divided into 3 working classes and attend 1 activity per day, lasting 2 hours (6 hours in total for all working classes).
The Summer School will be held around the end of June 2021, at the 2nd Primary School of N. Moudania, with the participation of the Directorate of Primary Education of Halkidiki, and will last 3 days.
The purpose of the Summer School for the users (students) will be:
1. The repetition of what was taught in the 1st Spring School in relation to robotics and the educational robotics platform TekTrain.
2. The expansion of knowledge through the execution of parallel processes, the introduction of random elements, and the treatment of stochastic issues.
The thematic content of the Summer School will be a mission in space.
The users (students) will complete a total of 6 projects (missions-projects). Indicatively, one of them is mentioned: During the 1st day, the children will complete the process of a mission to a simulator. On the 2nd day, returning, they will interact with the results of their work in the real world.
At the end of the Summer School, the students will evaluate the program and the process through a Questionnaire on the PC.

We ensure compliance with all prescribed health and safety measures to prevent the transmission of the COVID-19 virus.

The Summer School lasted 3 days and took place on 22, 23 and 24 June 2021, at the 2nd Primary School of N. Moudania, with the participation of the Directorate of Primary Education of Halkidiki, 6th grade students and teachers school’s.
The objectives of the Summer School for the users (students) were:
1. The repetition of what was taught in the 1st Spring School in relation to robotics and the educational robotics platform TekTrain.
2. The expansion of knowledge through the execution of parallel procedures, the introduction of random elements and the treatment of issues related to probability.
The thematic content of the Summer School was a mission in space.
The users (students) completed a total of 6 projects (missions-projects). Indicatively, one of them is mentioned: During the 1st day the children completed the process of a mission to a simulator. On the 2nd day, returning, they interacted with the results of their work in the real world.
